Good friends, great fun

I enjoyed the best afternoon the other day! Some of my dearest friends and I met for lunch to celebrate and get caught up on each other’s lives. These gals are truly amazing; and did I mention… talented? Trust me when I tell you they are all expert quilters — some of the best I know! So when we get together it’s always fun to talk quilting this-n-that, share ideas, and most of all, laugh. We’ve decided to call our group, the “Jelly Angels.” (Think: Jelly Rolls).

Carla is Dutch, Ilona and Birgit are German, Christine is French, and I’m American. Now that’s what I call INTERNATIONAL! And yet we share a passion for patchwork and a common bond in our love, appreciation and enjoyment of all things quilting. Talk about threads that bind!

I surprised each of them with one of my new Simpli-EZ Jelly Roll Rulers.

They surprised me with some wonderful treasures, too!

Christine made this gorgeous bouquet of flowers from French fabric. I LOVE it!
Birgit surprised us with a quilted tote bag in fabrics chosen specifically for each of our personalities. They’re awesome – perfect for travel – and the closure is ingenious!
Ilona made me this adorable juice-pouch bag to hold my sewing supplies. It has two compartments on the inside and pockets on the outside. Ilona, you ROCK!

And, we’ve decided to have a Jelly Roll challenge. We have six months to create a quilt from one jelly roll and one additional fabric. I can’t WAIT to see what these gals come up with. Stay tuned…I’ll be posting updates and of course photos of all the quilts at the end of the challenge!

On a completely different note, here’s a

Hedgehog Update

Too cute!

The hedgehogs stop by my studio door each night between 10 – 11 pm. But surprise! Now there are three hedgehogs! We just adore these late night visitors and I keep peanuts handy for their evening meal so they can go to bed with full tummies.

Nite-nite, termite! 😉

  2. Nothing is better for the soul than sharing time with friends who share your interests. How about a better pix of the tote and its closure?

  3. Do you think that #3 is baby hedgehog? They are too cute!

How lucky you are to have the Jelly Angels. Can’t wait to see the results of the challenge. I’m with Robin — let’s see a close up of that spiffy bag & the closure.

I loved the juice box tote and those lovely flowers! You are Creative Jelly Angels!

  4. Stina;

Don’t you just love the little prickly guys? I think you should take some peanuts on your walk and see if they can temp your hedgehog buddy. Our hedgehogs gobble up peanuts like they are starved!

  5. Hi Robin — Wish you could have joined us! I’m sure you would have fit right in with this group of gals! A photo of the purse close-up and detail shot of the closure is a great idea! What for the next blog….

  6. Pat!

Hey there, girl! I’m not sure about the 3rd hedgehog being their baby…. he is rather “stand-offish” and the two larger ones don’t seem to even acknowledge him much. He also runs off in the opposite direction from the burrow of the other two, so I’m not sure. He is smaller, but not quite what I’d expect as a baby. Last night, I even saw another hedgehog which I believe is the fourth one — but he came at another time, so I’m not exactly sure he is the fourth addition to the party. But I’ll keep you all posted with more hedgehog updates!
