Before you pack your suitcases and head off on a well-deserved summer holiday, pick up Quilt a Travel Souvenir by Kimberly Einmo from American Quilter's Society.

Its ideas and helpful hints for memory quilts apply not only to the author's travels through Europe, but also to wherever your travels take you.

Tips fo using machine embroidery and purchasing local fabrics guide you in creating a personal fabric scrapbook of your special trip.

Challenged by her husband to use some of the fabric she had collected during travels in Europe, Kimberly Einmo set out to create what she calls "souvenir quilts."

The 14 quilts showcase either the fabrics, such as the Dutch reproduction prints in the Delft-blue quilt "Ice Train to Amsterdam," or the setting, such as the patchwork block created to replicate the red geraniums in "Notting Hill Hidden Garden." Techniques include piercing and appliqué, hand and machine embroidery.

Enjoy traveling vicariously with Kimberly and then set out to create your own unique souvenir quilts with her inspiration. The book includes lesson plans for instructors.
