Classes/Workshops
Classes can be taught as either a 3 or 6 hour workshop unless otherwise indicated:
- 3 Hour Workshop – By preparing fabric at home and cutting basic strips and/or units prior to coming to class, students will be able to construct several blocks in class and leave with the confidence and expertise necessary to complete the quilt at home.
- 6 Hour Workshop – With some preparation at home before class, students will have ample time to construct blocks and piece a major portion or possibly the entire quilt top during the workshop.

Karlovy Vary, located in the Czech Republic, is a centuries old city well known to Europeans for its natural sulfur springs and for the spectacular buys on exquisite diamond-cut Bohemian Crystal, recognized by its multi-faceted star design. I designed this quilt to reflect that distinctive star pattern and to capture the loveliness of the city itself.
This quilt can be made by using the TRI RECS Tools and the EZ Angle Ruler, or by using the templates provided. Accurate rotary cutting and speed-piecing techniques will be demonstrated along with decorative machine stitching and quilteing options.

All aboard! The next stop on our European Quilt Tour is Paris – the City of Lights!
I designed this quilt using a black background, which makes clear colors sparkle and glow, just as the Eiffel Tower sparkles and radiates against an icy, wintry night sky. However, this design looks equally opulent sewn in colors with a holiday theme or using the red, white, and blue fabrics of the French flag and our own Stars and Stripes.
Students will be encouraged to choose complimentary colors from the color wheel, and to follow accurate strip-piecing techniques. While not difficult to construct, careful and accurate fabric placement within each of the blocks ensures the dynamic and intricate overall design.
Quilting and embellishing techniques will be discussed. This machine piecing class is recommended for intermediate level or higher students.

Seemingly endless fields of sunflowers bloom in profusion in late summer throughout Germany. While living there, sunflowers became one of my favorite flowers so I just had to make a sonnenblumen (the German word for sunflower) quilt.
Since Dresden is a city rich with history and tradition, I chose the traditional Dresden fan and Dresden plate blocks to piece the prettiest perfect sunflowers. Students will learn a fast and accurate technique for rotary cutting and machine piecing the Dresden fan block in two sizes.
Invisible machine appliqué techniques will be taught, along with quilting and embellishment options. This quilt is suitable for any quilter with some machine piecing experience.

At Keukenhof, located in The Netherlands, millions of tulips of every conceivable color (even black!) cover the seventy-acre, impeccably manicured grounds and stretch like dense satin ribbons along pathways and gently rolling hills.
In honor of these world-famous gardens, this quilt combines one appliquéd and two different pieced tulip blocks in a setting that creates a dynamic overall design as unique and spectacular as the gardens at Keukenhof.
Students will learn tips and secrets to efficiently and accurately piece these rather challenging blocks, including how to set-in seams with ease. Invisible machine appliqué will also be taught, along with quilting and finishing options.
This machine piecing class is recommended for intermediate level or higher.

Choose 10 or more fabrics and cut strips in advance, then come to class prepared to sew. With some rotary cutting magic, you'll create blocks that look as if they have set-in seams!
Remember, you "do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around..." You'll simply love making this quilt! Students have the option of making the blocks in either 6" or 12" sizes. Quilting and embellishing techniques will be discussed.

Ooh La La – Techniques for Perfect Machine Appliqué and Embellishments

Featured in the February 2007 issue of McCall’s Quilting Magazine, this quilt is the perfect project for students to learn a variety of different machine appliqué techniques. Fusible web makes the process fun and easy, and students will be able to use different accessory feet for their sewing machines along with incorporating many decorative stitches
.An emphasis on threads, stabilizers, and embellishing techniques will also be taught. The possibilities are endless for ways to enhance these pretty corsets with ribbons and lace. Magnifique!

Rhein Wein – This delightful, interlocking, three-block quilt is designed to capture the loveliness of the extensive vineyards growing along the Mosel and Rhein Rivers in Germany. Lap size.
Trail to Paducah – This quilt was a huge hit where it debuted at the 2006 AQS Quilt show in Paducah, KY! Kimberly taught the class at the show, and the class holds the unique distinction of being the very first class to sell out in less than one week after the show opened for registration. Simple, yet stunning, this two block quilt creates a lovely secondary pattern when the blocks are set side-by-side. Approximately 45" square.
Tea Leaves and Ginger – This striking two-block quilt is "Traditional with a Japanese twist." This quilt is best suited for intermediate quilters, but may also be fine for confident beginners.

"They Put Those Lines on the Mat for a Reason..."
A Comprehensive Rotary Cutting Class
This class is designed especially for beginning quilters; however, even more seasoned quilters will learn a few new tricks!
Students will learn to master the rotary cutter and a variety of rotary cutting techniques. Learn how to "measure twice and cut once" to ensure accurate strips and units, including how to effectively use the lines on the mats, how to cut with a variety of specialty rulers, and more.
I'll teach you how to "true-up" your fabric, and how to cut on the straight of grain as well as cut bias strips. I'll even show you a fool-proof way of achieving perfect strips of striped fabric without cutting!
Bring your rotary cutter, mat, 6" x 24" ruler, and any other rulers you'd like to master. This is a great beginning level class, but quilters of all skill levels are welcome.
No previous skills required. Rotary cutter, self-healing mat, and 6" x 24" ruler required. Students may bring any other rotary cutting supplies and rulers as desired- 1 – 1 ½ Hour Workshop – I will demonstrate accurate rotary cutting techniques using a variety of rulers and discuss the maintenance and care of rotary cutting tools.

Jacobs Ladder and Its Many Variations

It's amazing how many dynamic designs can be achieved with just two of the most basic units used in quiltmaking!
Students will learn several efficient and accurate ways to rotary cut and strip-piece to make four-patch and half-square triangle units. Then, they'll have fun getting their "feet wet" with an introduction to quilt design as they create their own unique wall hanging. The design possibilities are almost endless!
We'll explore a variety of techniques to construct these basic quilting units, practice fast strip-piecing methods and discuss various quilting options.
This is a great beginning/intermediate level machine piecing class.
