Launched!

What an amazing word.  And it expresses everything going on in my life these days! First, I officially “launched” the boys this morning for their first full day of school. Josh is in the 9thgrade (is it possible for him to be in high school already?) and Andrew is in the 4th grade. The summer break was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute, but it also feels good to begin a more steady “routine” again. We enjoyed many mornings this summer of sleeping late, and many evenings of staying up way past midnight. Now, things must change rapidly as we gear up for a busy academic and athletic year. The alarm will ring very early as we will get up at 4:30am to take Andrew to the pool by 5:45am for swim team practice!

Second, the word “launch” means something new for me: I’m launching this new BLOG. Yes, I’ve finally taken the plunge and decided to enter the cyber world of blogging. I have enjoyed reading other people’s blogs – mostly quilt related, but a few from family members and other friends. At first, I wasn’t sure blogging was something that would be worth the time and effort, but then I began to recognize my own habit of checking a few of my favorite blog spots every time I logged onto the Internet just to see what that person “had been up to lately…”

And since more is better (like fabric and chocolate?) I’ve decided to feature two blogs: one relating mostly to quilty-type things, and the second will be more of a travel log I’ve decided to call, “Where in the world is….. Kimberly?” My family and I love to travel, and we enjoy visiting new places at every available opportunity. So I thought it would be fun to share some photos and stories of the interesting and unique places we visit. I hope you will enjoy being an armchair traveler right along with me and you will write to share your own travel experiences with me and the rest of the blog readers!

Last, but certainly not least, the word “launch” applies to one more thing this week. I’m “launching” my new and improved, totally updated website! Be sure to visit at www.kimberlyeinmo.com and check out all the new pages! There are new photos, new products, and new things to see on every page. I have a new FREE pattern to share (My Sawtooth Stars and Flying Geese Quilt) and I’m getting ready to begin a new, FREE MYSTERY QUILT PATTERN in late September. There will also be a gallery for you to share the photos and quilts you have made from my patterns, classes, or workshops. I’d like my website and blogs to be interactive, which means I’d like you to share your stories, quilts and thoughts with me and all the other readers. I hope you will mark the website and my blogs as your new “favorite cyber spots” and visit often. I welcome your input and feedback: I want to hear from you!

So, get ready…..five, four, three, two, …… blast off!

LAUNCHED!

  2. I love the graphics on your site. Great job, Kimberly.

  3. Hi Kimberly,
    I’m curious as to what happened to Pfaff? Do you now recommend Bernina? I hope you are enjoying your stay in Germany. We miss you.
    Ellen

  4. Carolyn;
    Thanks for the good wishes! And thank you for working my quilts into your busy schedule. I am grateful for the awesome job you do on each and every one!

    NOTE: If any of you have wondered who does the machine quilting on the majority of my quilts, it is this talented lady, Carolyn Archer of Ohio Star Quilting! She makes my quilt tops turn into glorious quilts!

  5. Ellen;

    Thank you for your lovely compliment on the website. I have to give credit to Michael Dowden, the webmaster, for taking my vision for the website and turning it into reality. He and I have worked closely together for the past three years, but I must admit that I really asked him to do a lot with all the updates this past month or so. However, all our hard work paid off because I am so thrilled with the results! I’m sure he’ll appreciate your comments about the graphics — they truly are wonderful!

    As to your question about Bernina and Pfaff….I still love Pfaff. I have a 2170 and a Creative Vision, and I love them both! But I have also been sewing on a Bernina 730E since April and I also use a Janome Memory Craft 11000. They are all awesome machines and I can’t say a negative thing about any of them. I prefer different machines for different features and techniques — they all have their own unique, perfect functions. For excample, nothing beats the Pfaff dual feed — but I have found that I truly love and appreciate the complete accuracy of the Bernina 1/4″ seam allowance. And Janome has wonderful control and a beautiful full color touch screen with a very user friendly interface.

    Your question is a good one! I’ll try to blog about the differences and my preferences for each of my sewing machines in an upcoming blog soon.

    Thanks again, Ellen. Hope you’ll continue to come to the blog and website often. And I’m looking forward to giving a workshop for the Creative Quilters Guild in March, 2009! Looking forward to seeing you there in person!

    Kimberly
