Moving ahead

Our new home has this beautiful flowering tree in the front yard. I’m not familiar with the type of tree this is. Does anyone know what it is called?

So much has happened in the past four weeks my head is spinning! But God is great and we’re right where we’re supposed to be. After five months of waiting for interest from potential buyers, we received an offer on our Virginia home and closed the sale less than two weeks later. It was a hectic time; Kent and I met the packers and movers right after I taught classes at AQS QuiltWeek in Daytona Beach. The truck carrying our household goods pulled away from the house and we signed the papers just a few hours later.

Then it was back to California for a jam packed weekend of looking for a house to buy. We put a contract on a house but after we signed, it really began to sink in just how much work and money it was going to take to really fix that fixer upper. I couldn’t shake the “niggling” feeling something wasn’t just quite right so I kept perusing websites like Realtor.com waiting for new listings to become available. In all the years and moves we’ve gone through (17 to date!) I’ve never seen such a lack of inventory of homes in any market!

Last Friday I asked our realtor to take me to see a new home which had just come on the market and within hours we put our offer on it. The real estate market in the South Bay Area is so tight and fiercely competitive that almost every home receives dozens of offers for far more than the asking price very quickly. But we saw God’s hand at every step in this process as He opened doors and put us in the right place at the right time as we met with the seller’s agent and the next door neighbors, and word reached the seller about us and our offer. Ultimately, the seller accepted our offer over many other bids and as of this morning, it is official. We have a contract on a beautiful home in a wonderful little neighborhood. It is absolutely perfect for us and we are on cloud nine!

A true “God wink,” the house has a lemon tree with luscious, juicy lemons — perfect for my home brewed iced tea!

We still have so much to get through, but the home inspection is behind us so now there are things like the appraisal and termite inspection to get done. One day at a time. We’re excited to see what each day will bring as we get one day closer to finishing our transition from the East coast to the West coast. My sweet husband and I both feel giddy at the prospect of this new adventure. We know just how blessed we are. I’ll be posting more photos in the coming days so stay tuned!

Seeing the “In Escrow” sign today made it feel very real!
