Sew excited I have to share!

Have you heard the big news? (It sure seems big to me. Grin.)

Have you seen the newest issue of Mark Lipinski’s Quilter’s Home Magazine?  Subscribers received their issues in the mail a couple of weeks ago. But now, it’s finally available for sale on newsstands! My super-thoughtful friend, Pat, was kind enough to send me her copy (thank you mucho, Pat!)  and I picked up another copy at the local quilt shop last week. I admit it – I’m so excited!

My name is on the COVER and I’ve been doing the ‘happy dance’ around the house…

A few months ago I was contacted by Melissa Maher, Senior Editor for QHM, who interviewed me for the feature article entitled, “My Most Important Quilt.” I was truly honored! She called me on the phone and we had a lovely chat about the Order of the Sword Quilt I made for Gen Greg Martin and his wife, Wendy (who is also a good friend of mine.)

Don’t you just love the tag line at the top of the page? The ‘giggles’ part captures me quite well, don’t you think? If you haven’t picked up the October 2009 issue yet, you’ll have to check it out the next time you’re at the store.

Yup, I think this news is pretty big. And I’m still dancin….

(Now, there’s a visual image for you.)

  1. This is just awesome. Awesome, I tell you! I can’t imagine being in that room when the quilt was presented — it must have taken breathes away. I fully expect to see it 50 years from now on Antiques Road Show.

Folks, the funniest thing was that Kimberly had absolutly no idea that she was profiled in the mag, or that the article was so extensive. She’d been interviewed, but then kind of forgot about it. And no one from the Quilter’s Home had called her to say “guess what! You’re in the latest issue!” When I emailed her (asking for an autograph) right after my magazine arrived in the mail, she was floored. And there’s not a lot that leaves Ms. Einmo speechless.

Do you think an invitation from Jay Leno or Oprah is next?

  2. Wow! Congratulations Kimberly!! That’s so exciting!! I am not really a fan of Mark’s, but I will check out his magazine just because you’re in it! Because I am totally a Kimberly fan!!! Can’t wait to see your blog about your cruise too!!! 🙂 I’m going on a small local quilting retreat this weekend from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon! Just 5 of us at a bed and breakfast – where they cook for us and let us sew and shop all weekend long! Ohhhhhhhhhh, I can’t wait!

  3. Thank you SO much, LynnEl! I am totally honored to hear you (or anyone!) say you are a fan! It is just awesome and I appreciate it more than you could ever know. I am thrilled to hear you are going on a retreat — it sounds like quilter’s heaven on earth — seriously! If you do it next year, can I come too? 🙂

  4. Pat — Your ‘autographed’ copy is on its way back to you post haste! I was so glad to see it in person — and you were really kind enough to send it to me before it hit newsstands. You were also the first to tell me it was published, because like you said…I had forgotten all about it! I think I need to frame that cover and keep it in my sewing room somewhere. I hope this won’t be my only 15 minutes of fame! 😉
    Just kidding…

  5. That is sooooo cool!!!!! I’m dancing here too.

  6. I received my magazine last week. And that is a really awesome quilt.

  7. Kimberly,
This is exciting, sister!!! Actually I am NOT so surprised anymore, you have such great talent, and it is about time that we see A LOT MORE of you in magazines.
I remember you making the quilt for the general and Wendy, and seeing it in person. I was in awe back then and still am about all the quilts you design and make.
I think it was not long after I joined RPQG and never thought that I could even make a quilt EVER!!
You have always been my inspiration.
Oh well, enough sentimental stuff, you kick booty girlfriend!!!!
Pat, you are right, If Oprah does a show on talent, Kimberly needs to be on the show!!
    Chicago, watch out!!

  8. Thanks, Robin! I’d much rather be dancin’ with someone — glad to have the company! 🙂

  9. Mary-Kay; I appreciate your compliments about the quilt VERY much. Thanks heaps and tons!

  10. Carla — You always make me smile! I had forgotten that you actually saw Gen Martin’s quilt before it was presented to him. I don’t know about being your inspiration, ’cause you’ve got so much natural, creative talent and inspiring ideas racing around in your own head! I’m so grateful for ALL you’ve done to help me throughout the years. PLUS — you’re just one of the sweetest friends and nicest gals I’ve ever known! Love ya –

  11. Do you have any idea where that quilt is now? Is it with the General? Is it on display somewhere? It’s really art and history wrapped up together. I liked the part about soldiers ripping the patches off their uniforms to give to you so you could incorporate them into the quilt.

  12. The quilt resides with Gen Martin and Wendy; I’m not if it is in their home or at his office. But when it was presented to him at the ceremony, the Chief Master Sergeant had commissioned a beautiful, free-standing quilt display rack to hold the quilt — custom made for the exact size. So I’m sure wherever it is, it is on display for everyone to enjoy. I’d love to see it in person again sometime. I’m so proud of it and all the symbolism and sentiment associated with it!

  13. How exciting! I wasn’t planning on heading out today, but now I have to go and get that magazine! I would also like to know the quilt’s current location.

  14. oh yes Kimberley !!it’s very exciting and plus I can tell my friends that I “really” know you and brag a little bit !!!!!(lol!!!)
I didn’t find the magazine yet but I will!!!!

  15. Hi Kimberly,
oh my! I’m doing the happy dance for you! It must be so cool to be featured in a magazine (and what a cool mag!).
    Hugs, Julia

  16. Christine — Thank you so much for your hearty good wishes! If you can’t find the magazine around Paris, just let me know and I’ll send one to you!

  17. Thanks, Julia! You bet I’m excited, but it is oh-so-much more fun to know that I’ve got buddies doing the happy dance with me! 🙂

  18. Kimberly, Reading the magazine article really touched my heart. I’m so proud of this quilt for you. It’s not only a great honor for you to make it for General Martin and his wife but a great honor for them to receive it. Keep up the great work you do!
    ~ Jan

  19. Jan — Thank you ever so much! Gosh — I am really humbled and so delighted that this story about the Order of the Sword quilt touched your heart! Thank you for sharing — it means the world to me!

  20. Hi there..its july 2022 and came across some QHMs from 2008\2009 but can find no further. Great mag. What happened? Did it stop publishing? Did it change its name? If so to what?.

    • I think you’re referring to Quilter’s Home Magazine? If so, that magazine stopped publishing a long time ago.
