09/09/09 — special in so many ways!

For people around the world, Sept 9th was quite significant. Consider these fun facts:

(Ahem…some text copied from CNN; Saeed Ahmed.)

  • You probably won’t get to experience another single-digit date in your lifetime. The next one won’t roll around for 92 years — until 1/1/2101.
  • 9/9/09 was among the top 100 search terms on the search engine Google on Tuesday.
  • In Malaysia, more than 500 ethnic Chinese couples married at a Buddhist temple in Kuala Lumpur.
  • The Chinese culture considers the number nine auspicious. In major Chinese dialects, the word for “nine” sounds similar to “longlasting.”
  • The date falls on a Wednesday in September, both of which have 9 letters.
  • September 9 also is the 252nd day of the year. 2+5+2.
  • If you multiply a single-digit number by 9, the resulting two digits add up to 9. Consider: 8×9.
  • Baseball is a game steeped in nines: nine players on the field at one time, nine innings, 90 feet between bases and nine strikes per inning.

However, on a more personal note, 9/9/09 was special because it was my birthday!

My folks came for a quick visit to share my special day, and my Dad surprised me with a special gift he made himself: a  new church for my feathered friends and backyard critters! Thanks, Pop — I love it!

My boys suprised me with a stack of new books I had on my “wish” list (more on those later….) and Kent gave me the appliance of my dreams: a new, Rowenta Expert Steam Generator Iron!

Rowenta Iron

Now, this is what I’m talking about! 🙂

For lunch, Mom and I went to a delightful little tea room in a Victorian Village and were served high tea, complete with assorted finger sandwiches, scones, pastries and chocolate. It just doesn’t get any better than sharing a birthday luncheon with your Mom in a girly tea room.

After a nice dinner out with the family, we all came back home to enjoy my favorite new flavor of cake from a local bakery: red velvet! Yummy just doesn’t begin to describe just how moist and delicious this cake tastes. Mmmmmmmm……..

I saved a piece just for you. Enjoy!

  1. Happy Birthday one day late. I love your gifts especially the iron. What a thoughtful husband!

    • Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, Mary-Kay! I’m still doing the “happy dance” over that new iron. I’ll pass along your comments to my hubby — it will puff out his chest for sure! 🙂

      Thanks again…

  2. IRON ENVY!!! I’ve got Iron Envy! (Yep, that’s related to the ever-popular “fabric envy” from a mystery quilt class). I’m also craving cake, but I think Mimi is right — sure looks like the smallest piece to me! I think the birthday girl put some of that cake away in her cake stash.

I love the new bird feeder your dad made — I remember seeing a picture of the one in Germany & assume you had to leave that behind. What a special gift to help you make this new address home! The boys wrapped those books so beautifully — does that paper come as part of a fabric line? And high tea with your Mum? It sounds like you had the perfect day. What more could a 29 year old ask for?

  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you.. or Gratttis på födelsedagen!!! Even if its a day late!!! Nice to see posts from you again!!!!

  5. Ahem, did we get the smallest piece? Your birthday was wonderful!

    • Dear Mimi — Ha (LOL) you’re comment truly made me laugh! You’re right — that piece does look a bit skimpy!!! Actually, that piece was the one I cut for myself (before I gobbled it up) and I was trying to be good. So much for good intentions…..we know what road was paved with those! I had another piece for breakfast this morning! tee hee…..

  6. Hi Kimberly I can’t seem to download the second installment of the new mystery quilt. I get a page not found error. Can you please check for me? Thanks. Sam

  7. Hi Kimberly all OK now; got the next set of instructions. Thanks. Sam

    • Hi Sam! Thanks so much for letting me know there was a problem with the link. I’m happy we were able to get it fixed! Great to hear from you….

    • Thank you so much, Julia! I appreciate the belated wishes very much. And thanks for noticing the cake stand. I “splurged” and bought that on Wednesday as a special treat for myself! (Fortunately, it really wasn’t very expensive….) 🙂
