It’s Official!

I can now share the exciting news I promised a few weeks ago. The American Quilter’s Society will be publishing my second book!

Yes, it’s official, and I am absolutely thrilled Meredith Schroeder, the publisher, has chosen to publish my newest manuscript! I began working on the manuscript in earnest some months ago, but devoted almost the entire month of September to complete the proposal. I decided it was best to take it with me to present in person while I was in Des Moines teaching at the AQS Quilt Show.

I’m excited to be working with the new Executive Editor, Andi Reynolds, and the entire AQS team (who I consider my publishing “family”) on my next book. We’re in the process of finalizing plans and ideas now, and I’ll be able to share more details with you in the coming weeks as the quilts progress.

The book will not be about travel or souvenir quilts this time; it will be much more technique oriented. But rest assured, the quilts I have proposed are easy, fun-to-make, and stunning! The format will truly be exciting, and I’m aiming for a fresh, new, bold perspective. I think you’ll love it!

More details to follow, but in the meantime, I hope you’ll join me in some celebrating the new contract for my second book. Cheers!

  1. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! We are so proud of you. I’m sure it will be great. LOVE YA

  2. Cheri —

Thanks a million for the warm wishes! Coming from family means the world to me!

  3. Congrats on your next endeavor! How exciting for you! Did somebody say Baileys?

  4. Thank you, Mary! They served Bailey’s on our Lufthansa flight to Houston, and it was truly the only thing that made that awful flight tolerable! However, I’m thinking that tonight would be a great night to open a bottle of Bailey’s here at home for a sip to celebrate!

  5. One book was good, but two will be amazing! I can’t wait to see it. Will it be ready in time for the QHC in April? Tell the truth now, which is tougher: birthing a baby or birthing a book??? Such exciting possibilities!

BTW, love the online Mystery Quilt idea. I’ve got 2 versions already cut and waiting for the next step.

  6. Hey Pat! Thank you, thank you — I appreciate your supportive words so much! The release date of BOOK #2 won’t be until late winter/early spring 2010, so it will be ready in time for the next QHC show. My deadline to have everything in house to AQS is right before QHC 2009. Getting a book published seems to take such a long time…

It’s a real toss-up between birthing a baby or a book…. (smile) but the end result is just about the same for both — it feels amazing!

I’m so tickled you are having fun with the online mystery quilt. (Tell your quilting friends!) I’ve got STEP 2 all queued up and ready to go for tomorrow (Friday.) The steps will be ready to download every Friday and you’ll have plenty of time during the week to complete each step so when you download the final clue, your quilt(s) will fly together quickly! What colors/types of fabrics have you chosen for your two versions?

  7. Wow, another book. You didn’t say anything about it in your e-mail today. Love the hearts quilt in McCall’s Quilting. I am now hoping for a late winter date – hate to wait any longer than we have to. Good luck through the process. Once again, you done good!

  8. Jan — Thanks a million for your email with such kind comments about the book! I’ll be sure to get a copy to you as soon as they are hot off the press!
    🙂
